Taranaki Racing is excited to announce the launch of a new-look Taranaki Racing Awards format and categories for their 2018 event. These new categories include not only outstanding horses, but also passionate owners, talented trainers, and amazing supporters to recognise the many contributors within the industry.
Hosted by Andre Neal, the evening will see the launch of the Legend’s Lounge, which will showcase some of the most outstanding horses to have been trained at Pukekura Raceway, as well as awarding the Horse Of The Year chosen from the winners of the contributing categories - 2 year old, 3 year old, Sprinter/Miler, Stayer, and Winter Galloper/Jumper.
Winning success will feature on the evening in three new “Most Wins” categories awarded to Any Trainer, a Local Trainer, and a Jockey.
Industry participants are also set to be recognised through new awards including Steward of the Year, Owner of the Year, and Supporter of the Year, to acknowledge the contribution these sectors make to the club through their volunteer work, ownership, race day attendance, and sponsorship, which all help to ensure a successful club.
The local racing community are invited to contribute to this by submitting nominations in the People’s Choice Award Horse, Local Performance of the Year, and Story of the Year. The public will also get to vote for the Ride of the Year, People’s Choice, and on the night guests will choose the winner of the Story of the Year.
Taranaki Racing board member, Jay Millar, commented “We’re very excited about the new style event planned for this year. There are many contributors to the industry, and incorporating these acknowledgements into our awards evening allows us to recognise these contributions and show our appreciation to some of the unsung heroes.”
Nominations for the People’s Choice Award Horse, Local Performance of the Year, and Story of the Year are now open with submissions closing on the 24th of July.
